Brighton & Hove Albion Tariq Lamptey had exempted himself from England’s U21 squad.
The right back does not want to play any further part in the Young Three Lions team as he work on his switch to Ghana.
Lamptey has been approached by Ghana and is believed to have accepted to represent the West Africans at international level after being overlooked severally by England’s senior national team.
“There’s an issue over his dual nationality. He’s had an approach. It’s something he’s considering at the minute,” England U21 Coach Lee Carsley said.
“He’s asked to be left out of the squad for a bit of head space. He’s not switched, it’s not cemented or anything like that.
“But he’s had an approach (from Ghana), we have to respect that.
“We’ve made it clear how important we see him to us. I know the seniors have as well.
“It’s not something that we’ve given up on. Tariq is fully aware of how important we see him.”
The 21-year-old faces stiff competition at the right back position in the England National team with the likes of Kyle Walker, Trent Arnold, Reece James and Karien Trippier all rated ahead of him.
