Jean Adukwei Mensa is a lawyer from Ghana and the Chairman of Ghana’s Electoral Commission. Before assuming the position of Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa served at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) for 18 years, becoming Executive Director and playing a key role in strengthening the democracy of Ghana and establishing strong institutions.

Early life and education

Jean Mensa received her secondary education at the St. Mary’s Senior High School. She studied at the University of Ghana, Faculty of Law and received her degree in 1993. She was called to the Bar in 1996. Jean Mensa also received an executive education from the Harvard Business School (2018).

Career
On 23 July 2018, Jean Mensah was named as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana after Madam Charlotte Osei was axed from office. Jean Mensah’s quest for democracy for the past two decades made her a leader in Policy research and advocacy. In 2012, she was involved in the Presidential Transition Act, the Revised 1992 Constitution of Ghana, Political Parties Funding Bill, and the Revised Political Parties Bill.

Jean Mensah was sworn in by President of Ghana, Akuffo Addo though some people wanted the whole process to be halt as a result challenging the removal of the former EC’s chairperson.

Prior to working at the IEA which organized Ghana’s Presidential and Vice-Presidential Debates, as well as Town Hall Meetings for parliamentary candidates, Mrs Mensa also worked at Amarkai Amarteifio Chambers (1995-1997) and BJ Da Rocha Chambers as a Junior Lawyer (1998).

Mrs. Jean Mensah is married to Dr. Charles Mensa and are blessed with three children. She has hid her family life from the public

Mrs. Jean Mensah is yet to hold her first national election after coming under massive criticism for compiling a new voter’s register by the opposition party, NDC.

The revised the 1992 Constitution of Ghana which is currently in a draft form. She also helped in formulating the Political Party Funding Bill as well as the revised Political Party Bill.

The fine was not just levied on Nana Ama McBrown. She is a member of the group that also includes Mr. Logic, Kwame A-Plus, Afia Schwarzenneger, and Fadda Dickson.

That according reports, the penalty stemmed from a slander case against Chairman Wontumi.

In the socialite Nana Tornado’s video, Fadda Dickson and the other members of the clique were each fined 60,000 for disparaging Chairman Wontumi.

NPP has embarrassed us for campaigning for them-Afia Schwarzenegger (Video)

Media personality, Afia Schwarzenegger born Valentina Osei Agyeiwaa has disclosed that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has embarrassed her and others particularly celebrities who campaigned for them.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Afia Schwarzenegger disclosed she campaigned for the NPP because of the Free SHS initiative.

She added that the NPP out of desperation for power claimed that there was money in the country and that the former government, the NDC mismanaged the economy, so she cannot fathom why the NPP government have gone to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support to help Ghana build back in the face of challenges currently confronting the economy.

Afia Schwarzenegger was quick to add that she is embarrassed by the NPP’s decision to go to the IMF for financial support as some policies in Ghana like the SHS may be affected.
