Qatar’s winning bid outlined the “most compact” World Cup ever, with all but one of the 12 proposed venues within 60 kilometers of each other.

There are mere months before another men’s FIFA World Cup and Qatar will host 31 other nations that will play 64 games, beginning and ending in Lusail Iconic Stadium which was designed specifically for the World Cup and which will have a zero carbon footprint. The tournament also promises to leave a lasting legacy, not only in Qatar but across the world after the organizers pledged to reconfigure nine of the stadiums after the tournament and to provide 170,000 seats to emerging nations to help develop their sports infrastructure.

This will be the first time such event will be held at the end of the calendar year in November and December. Eight stadiums will host the event across five cities in Qatar: Lusall, Al Khor, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah and Doha.

The opening day of the two-day conference was attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah.

Speaking to the media last Friday, Major General Eng. Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ansari, Chairman of the Safety & Security Operations Committee (SSOC) for Qatar 2022, told delegates during the opening of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Security Last-Mile Conference, at InterContinental Doha, yesterday that Qatar will host a safe and a well secured 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“This conference comes a few months before the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as a continuation of international coordination and cooperation efforts and the exchange of experiences between various countries and security authorities. It affirms the joint responsibility in achieving the highest security and safety standards during the World Cup,” Maj. Gen Al Ansari said.

Last year’s FIFA Arab Cup, was a momentous occasion to measure the security, logistical and organisational readiness for a major football tournament, Maj Gen Al Ansari mentioned.

“Qatar has acquired the highest security levels and currently ranked as one of the most secured countries with low crime rates. Qatar has also developed its security protocols seen in events hosted, last year. We were pleased by the positive feedbacks from other Arabic-speaking participating countries in the last few events we have hosted, which will help us present a safe World Cup,” he added.

A total of 29 of 32 teams have officially qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, including the host nation. That leaves three spots to be filled in June.

In addition to host nation Qatar, there have been 12 nations from Europe to qualify for the tournament, four from South America, four from Asia, five from Africa, and three from North America.

The Ghana FA has announced September 9-12 as the kick-off date for the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League season.

The new season will start on a Friday September 9 with matches played across the various league centers.

Fixtures for the new season will be released on Tuesday July 26, 2022 to enable clubs prepare adequately for the season.

2022 FIFA World Cup: FIFA Council gives approval for countries to present 26 players

The Bureau of FIFA Council has given approval for qualified countries to proceed to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with 26 players.

The squad size of 26 will be an increase from the usual 23-man squad used by national teams at the mundial in the past editions.

73rd FIFA Congress

The 73rd FIFA Congress will be held in Kigali, Rwanda on 16 March 2023. The 2023 FIFA presidential election will take place at the 73rd FIFA Congress, the call for which was approved by the FIFA Council during its meeting on 30 March 2022.

Kigali already hosted a meeting of the FIFA Council in October 2018.

Amendments to the Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™

Given the need to retain additional flexibility due to the unique timing of the FIFA World Cup 2022™ in the global calendar, as well as the broader context of the disruptive effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on squads before and during tournaments, the Bureau has decided the following: • The maximum number of players on the release list has been increased from 35 to 55. • The number of players to be included on the final list has been increased to at least 23 and a maximum of 26. • The final matchday at club level for the 23 to 26 players nominated on the final list will be 13 November 2022. • No more than 26 people (up to 15 substitutes and 11 team officials – one of these officials must be the team doctor) will be allowed to sit on the team bench.

Equipment Regulations for FIFA competitions

Following an in-depth review of the 2015 edition of the FIFA Equipment Regulations, which considered best practices in football and selected sports industry regulations, whilst also taking into account relevant provisions of the Laws of the Game and other FIFA regulations, the Bureau has decided to apply changes for the 2022 edition. FIFA U-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023™

In December 2020, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bureau decided to cancel the 2021 edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup™ and appointed the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to host the competition in 2023. Following discussions with the PSSI, as well as consultations with all confederations, the Bureau has confirmed that the tournament will be played from 20 May to 11 June 2023.
